I remember this so vividly from when I was a kid. I got all the jokes, even though I wasn't a DC reader. It was that accessable. And even if DC wasn't pleased, well hell, it was a parody, and once use only was permitted under copyright laws. Nothing kept DC from doing the same back at Marvel in their own mag, if they wanted to. I don't recall DC ever letting down their hair this way.
